The Annapurna Base Camp, 7 Days Trek, is one of the most popular trekking destinations in all of Nepal. Taking a big inhale of the cool, fresh Himalayan air while staring at the unparalleled views of the towering peaks of the Annapurna Range is one of the best trekking experiences you could ever get.

From lush green alpine forests with glimpses of rare and endangered wildlife to diverse communities living their day-to-day lives, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a trek bursting with different flavors of the mountains.

The word “Annapurna” means “full of grains,” which holds great significance in the lives of mountain communities. Also believed to be the “goddess of harvests," the Annapurna Range connects through religious beliefs as well as sheer natural beauty.

At an altitude of 4130 meters, it offers the most ethereal front-row view of the entire range of Annapurna. It is one of the few destinations where you can reach it in such a short amount of time (7 days) and get the grandest views of some of the world’s highest peaks.

Easy enough for beginners and short enough for those who have a non-flexible schedule, the one-week Annapurna Base Camp hike is the perfect trekking voyage for you to embark on!

Why should you do the short Annapurna Base Camp Trek of 7 days in 2024/2025?

For any avid trekker and mountain lover, wanting to see the mountains up close is one of the major motivators. And the Annapurna Base Camp trek gives you just that in the span of 7 days.

Here is a list of things that will make your trek to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek the most remarkable experience!

Magical and Mystical Mountains

Upon reaching the base camp, you will finally understand what the “front-row seat for viewing mountains” means. It is not an exaggeration to say that the Annapurna range will be right before your very eyes. One of the most prominent mountains that you can see during the trek is Annapurna I.

At an elevation of 8091 meters, it is the tenth-highest mountain in the world. You can also catch a glimpse of Dhaulagiri (8167 meters) and Manaslu (8163 meters), which are the seventh and eighth tallest peaks in the world, respectively.

Machhapuchhre (6,993 meters), also known as the “fish-tail mountain” for its unique fish-tail-like peak, is one of the major highlights. Known for not being allowed to summit due to an underlying religious belief, Mt. Machhapuchhre is a sight for sore eyes and one of the most beautiful peaks in Nepal.

Other prominent mountains include Annapurna III (7,555 meters), Annapurna South (7,219 meters), Gangapurna (7,455 meters), Gandharva Chuli (6,248 meters), and Gandharva Chuli (6,248 meters).

Connect with vibrant cultures and communities.

One of the things that sets Annapurna Base Camp, or rather the entire Annapurna region, apart is the distinctive diversity in a single community. Unlike Langtang or Everest, where a community consists of a single ethnic group, Annapurna is filled with multiple ethnicities living in harmony.

The diversity extends to religion as well. The Annapurna is home to Gurungs, Magars, Thakalis, Tamangs, Brahmins, and Chhetris, to name a few, who are followers of both Buddhism and Hinduism, the former being more prominent.

Kind hospitality is reflected in the culture as you trek to the most remote part of the country. Agricutural lands filled with paddy and rice on a terrace field and many leaving their farm animals to graze will make you feel the simplicity of village life. The culture also reflects authentic foods and traditional music.

Rustic Ghandruk Village under the snowy peaks

For those who enjoy immersing themselves in the deep authenticity of the native people, Ghandruk Village offers just that. It has basically become a hub for trekkers in the Annapurna region. It is a quaint little village you often see on photo cards.

The traditional architecture with mountains in the background is truly a mesmerizing view. The village has Gurungs as the major inhabitants, who have a unique lifestyle.

Some of the major attractions of Ghandruk Village are the Gurung Homestays, which have traditional homes and provide opportunities to experience cultural dances, ethnic foods, and even dressing up in cultural Gurung attire.

You can also visit the Gurung Museum, which is filled with traditional tools used by the Gurungs in their day-to-day lives. The stone-paved stairs that lead you to different parts of the village will make you feel like you are walking through a maze. You can also visit the Meshram Baraha temple located in the village.

Diverse landscapes with rich flora and fauna

The Annapurna Base Camp lies within the boundary of the Annapurna Conservation Area, which is not only the first conservation area in Nepal but also the biggest.

It is known as a hotspot for rare and endangered animals. There is always a chance of getting a glimpse of rare animals, such as snow leopards, musk deer, Himalayan black bears, Tibetan argalis, and Tibetan wolves. Other common sightings include Himalayan thar, pika, and langur monkeys.

Many birds can be sighted as well, such as the Himalayan Monal, Snow Partridge, Lammergeier (bearded vulture), Golden Eagle, and Himalayan Griffon. The chirping of birds will be music to your ears as you venture deep into the forest.

The trail is also a sanctuary for different species of plants and trees, some of the most prominent of which are rhododendrons, Alpine flowers, juniper, bamboo, pine and fir, and moss and lichen.

Waterfalls, caves, and hot springs

The natural beauty does not stop with the mountains. As you hike through the dense green forest past a village called Bamboo, after a few hours, you will arrive at one of the most mesmerizing places on the entire trek.

The 108 waterfalls are just behind a small temple and will leave you in a daze. And trekking further ahead, you will come across a cave known as Hinku Cave, which has a religious connection to the local people.

Once you finish your trek and descend back down, you can enjoy a full-body relaxing dip in a natural hot spring in Jhinu Danda. The natural elements of the spring are said to have healing properties, and many trekkers enjoy a rejuvenating dip after a particularly tiring trek.

The longest suspension bridge in Kaski District

Connecting the village of Jhinu Danda to other surrounding villages, the Samrong River suspension bridge is a whopping 287 meters long and 135 meters high, making it the longest suspension bridge in the entire Kaski district. It also connects to the route of the Annapurna Base Camp.

It is not only a symbol of the connection of one place to many others but also an engineering marvel and an architectural investment for building the infrastructure to contribute towards the development of the village and tourism in general.

How do I get to Annapurna Base Camp?

For this program, you will have a ride or flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu. While you can choose either a tourist bus or private car from Kathmandu to Pokhara, from Pokhara to Nayapul, you will be provided with a private car.

You will be driven back to Pokhara from Siwai by private car. From Pokhara to Kathmandu, you have options: a tourist bus, a private car, or a flight. You are able to select according to your wishes, time, and budget. Flights and private cars will save you time but can be a bit expensive. While a tourist bus is a more pocket-friendly option, it consumes more time.

What is the best season for the 7-day trek to the Annapurna Base Camp?

Nepal has two seasons that are very well known for being the best time to visit and those are spring and autumn. The months of September–November and March–May are said to have the best type of weather in the mountains. Skies are clear, and one gets the most crisp and clear view of the mountains. However, that doesn't mean winter or summer isn't good at all for the treks. In fact, winter is the best time to trek.

What most people do not realize is that even the winter season is one of the best times for trekking in the mountains. Admittedly, it will be extremely cold but the views of the snowcapped peaks are one of the best you will ever get to witness. Meanwhile, the summer season can be good for people who want to see greenery and do a monsoon trek. But it can be very risky, as the monsoon also brings natural disasters like floods and landslides.

Is the Annapurna Base Camp short trek difficult?

On a difficult scale, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is categorized as easy—moderately challenging. This trek is short and very suitable for beginner trekkers who are just venturing into the world of trekking in the mountains. It is also good to trek the ABC to prepare for more difficult treks, such as the Everest Base Camp Trek.

One of the most challenging aspects of this trek is the stone stairs uphill, which can make your legs feel like jelly. But with the right preparation and exercise prior to the trek, it will be very helpful during the trek and make things easier.

What is the height and distance of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek for 7 days?

The highest point of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is the base camp itself, at an elevation of 4130 meters. While the total distance depends on the route you take, this particular route of the Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek of 7 days covers approximately 65–70 kilometers. You can choose to make your trek longer or shorter as you wish.

Is the Annapurna Base Camp a short trek of 7 days for me?

Going to trek at any high-altitude destination requires good preparation. You should not only be physically fit but also have good mental strength. Starting preparation for the trek at least two to three weeks prior by doing cardiovascular exercises is one of the best ways to maintain your physical stamina.

You have to trek uphill and downhill, which takes a lot of energy, and with high altitude, problems like altitude sickness are very common. And the only way to avoid it is by being physically fit. Therefore, having a good diet, building endurance, and getting proper hydration are the best ways to ensure a smooth trekking experience. You will have a trekking guide with you who will guide you through the process of acclimatization.

On the first day of your epic trek in Nepal, we’ll depart from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, following the Prithvi Highway all the way to Pokhara. Depending on your preference, we can travel by tourist bus or private Jeep—and you can even opt to fly between the two cities, at an added expense. If you prefer to travel by road, the route should take us approximately seven hours to complete. But this is no boring workday commute: our drive will bring us through some of Nepal’s most scenic and alluring rural landscapes. You’ll see how the terrain of the Kathmandu Valley gradually changes, rising to terraced farms of barley dotted here and there with traditional homesteads and finally giving way to the sheer alpine heights of the mighty Himalayas. When we arrive in Pokhara, we’ll get checked into our hotel and spend the rest of the evening exploring this charming lakeside city.

  • Driving time: 6-7 hrs approx

With our team assembled, we’ll make the short drive to nearby Nayapul before shouldering our backpacks and hitting the trail. Today’s hike makes for a gentle introduction to the rigors of trekking in Nepal, and the scenery here is splendid. We’ll cross gravity-defying suspension bridges, stand in the spray of roaring waterfalls, and marvel at the impossible heights of the Himalayas far above our heads. The frozen summits of Hiunchuli, Machapuchare, and Annapurna South will be especially prominent during today’s trek. After about four or five hours of walking, we’ll find ourselves arriving in the village of Ghandruk. We’ll get checked in at our guesthouse and enjoy a hot meal before turning in and spending our first night in the high Himalayas of Nepal.

These monumental summits will continue to tower over the trail during the course of today’s hike, peeking out from behind row upon row of forest-clad hillsides. While today’s continuous ascent may be challenging, we’ll take plenty of breaks to drink water and savor the marvelous natural scenery of the Himalayas. After about five or six hours of trekking, we’ll pull into Chhomrong just in time for a hearty meal at our teahouse or trekking lodge. Before getting some rest, you’ll definitely want to catch the unforgettable spectacle of the sun setting over the gilded peaks of the Annapurnas.

Moving on, we’ll pass through the little mountainside villages of Bamboo and Dovan before arriving at the Himalayan Hotel after about five or six hours of hiking. Also known simply as Himalaya, this community is little more than a small collection of guesthouses and restaurants—but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in hospitality. You’ll fall in love with the friendly people here, and our guesthouse accommodations tonight will make you feel right at home.

Are you ready for the final push into the Annapurna Sanctuary? We’ve still got some distance to cover, but today is sure to represent the highlight of your trek in Nepal. We’ll be visiting two separate base camps today: Machapuchare Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp. Our hike begins by following the glacial moraine as it approaches the Sanctuary. We’ll check in with the locals to make sure there’s no risk of an avalanche before continuing on to Machapuchare Base Camp, where we’ll enjoy up-close-and-personal encounters with the mighty faces of Annapurna I, Annapurna III, and Annapurna South. While this is an incredible sight, our trek has even more wonders in store for us today.

Moving on from Machapuchare Base Camp, we’ll trek for another few hours to reach Annapurna Base Camp itself. When you come face-to-face with the colossal Annapurna massif, you’ll quickly see how the mountain earned its reputation as a dangerous climb. The summit of this skyscraping Himalayan peak reaches to an impressive 8,091 meters in elevation. We’ll content ourselves with taking plenty of photos from the safety of the ground here, enjoying the adrenaline rush of accomplishing the goal of our trek in Nepal: reaching Annapurna Base Camp. We’ll spend the night at one of the lodges here at base camp.

After breakfast, we’ll turn our backs to the mighty Annapurnas and begin to retrace our steps, trekking downhill amongst the extraordinary surroundings of the Himalayan mountains. While the path is always easier on the descent, we’ll set a slow and steady pace to benefit our knees on the many steep stairs we’ll be taking. After about five or six hours, we’ll reach the community of Bamboo and pick out the best available guesthouse for tonight’s accommodations. We can also trek a little further to reach Sinuwa, which offers slightly better mountain views—after all, this is your last full day of trekking in Nepal. Trip Info

Where does the trek start?

The trek officially starts in Pokhara. Therefore, if you are already in Pokhara, you can book your trip, and we will assist you accordingly. As your trek officially starts in Pokhara, the package we provide does not cover your stay in Kathmandu.

What is the accommodation like at the Annapurna Base Camp?

Throughout the trek, you will be staying in a variety of hotels, lodges, homestays, and tea houses. The accommodation experience differs from place to place where a place like Ghandruk will have good hotel options with rooms with attached bathrooms, but as you gain altitude, it will be a room with multiple shared beds with dormitory-style and common bathrooms. So, we urge you to mentally prepare yourself to enjoy some basic facilities during the trek.

Note: Unlike other trekking destinations, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek accommodation is more on a sharing basis; this is not always the case, but there is always a chance. There is a possibility that, in some places, you might have to share a room with other fellow trekkers. They will provide separate rooms for men and women. Because of tourist overflow during the peak season, there will be limited rooms available. Therefore, tourists are expected to share rooms if there are only a limited number of rooms available.

Does this include accommodation in Kathmandu?

No, the package does not include the accommodation in Kathmandu. But if you would like us to arrange a hotel for you, we are happy to be of service to you.

What are the food options during the trek?

Trekking at high-altitude locations requires a lot of energy, as you will be walking for six hours on average. The only way to keep your stamina in check is by consuming a proper diet. One of the readily available foods that is very nutritious and the best for trekking is the Nepali meal, Dal Bhat. There will be other foods available, such as mo: mo, chow mein, thukpa, and noodle soups, which are Nepali and Asian-influenced. Apart from that, you can also find Western foods such as pasta and pizza.

But keep in mind that it might not be available throughout the trek, and preparing it might take longer compared to Nepali food. Additionally, the taste might also differ from the original authentic western foods. The trail is mostly vegetarian and even if non-vegetarian items are available, we recommend not eating them as they might not be fresh and can cause stomach issues. The best meal to have is the Nepali Dal Bhat because it is a well-balanced meal.

Is water and electricity easily available?

There is no problem with water supplies on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. It is easily available. You can fill your bottle with normal tap water for free. However, mineral water and hot water for drinking and showering will cost extra.

Most of the trek has hydroelectricity running, so charging your devices will not be a problem. The base camp itself runs on solar power, so you might have limited time to charge your electronics. Charging your electronics will also cost you extra, depending on the place.

How much money should I personally carry for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek of 7 days?

The cost of food, accommodation, and transportation is already covered by your trekking package. The coverage for food is three meals a day, which include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The transportation cost does not cover private vehicle hiring or flight costs. Therefore, any other service you want to enjoy will be at your personal expense. During the trek, there isn’t much you can do so separating around US$20-25 per day should be enough. But Pokhara can be enticing, as there are many things to do, so it will totally depend on how you spend your money.

What amenities can I expect during the ABC Trek?

One of the best things about the Annapurna Base Camp is that communication connections and internet services are available throughout the trek. The phone networks can be disconnected at higher locations but work perfectly fine around lower places. For internet, you can connect to the Wi-Fi provided by the hotel or teahouse with a small payment. Many places provide hot showers as well, with additional payment.

What is the weather and temperature like in the Annapurna Base Camp?

The weather and temperature depend on the season. Spring and autumn are considered to be the best seasons because the temperatures are moderate and the weather is clear with perfect views. Meanwhile, summer is not recommended because of heavy rain, which makes trekking risky. However, in winter, despite the bone-chilling cold, the weather is clear and perfect for clean views of the mountains.

What is a typical day like during the Annapurna Base Camp 7-Day Trek?

Your day typically starts with an early breakfast, around 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. And after your breakfast, you will embark on your trek. On average, you will trek anywhere from 6 to 8 hours per day. Around mid-day, you will stop for lunch, where your guide will take you. You will also enjoy the beautiful landscapes, mountains, and communities as your guide relays his expertise on different aspects of the place you are passing by.

You will not be rigorously trekking throughout the entire day; in fact, you will rest at some tea shops, explore small markets of handicrafts laid out on the trail, take everlasting pictures, capture yourself among the memories, connect with the locals and lose yourself among the mountains.

Once you reach the tea house and settle in for the night, you will have a few hours to explore the surroundings before your dinner is ready around 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. After dinner, you will have a small briefing as to what to expect for the next day and even communicate with your guide regarding how the experience has been so far. From start to finish, this experience was incredible! The website was easy to understand and informative. Dil who managed the logistics prior to the trek was incredibly helpful, providing all the necessary information and answering any and all questions (while I lived in Nepal and didn’t have time to plan a trek!). My lovely guide, Arpan, went above and beyond to make this experience fantastic! I had a cold the first few days, and he was always caring for my well-being, and looking out for me. He made the experience very enjoyable, informative, comfortable, and fun! I would highly recommend him as a guide. We had such a wonderful view of the mountains, and I absolutely will do another trek with Alpine Ramble in the future!

I totally recommend Alpine Ramble as your guided trekking company wherever in Nepal. Since the beginning Dil was always ready to answer all my questions, reply fastly to my emails and help me to choose the best itinerary. He was always very open to any suggestions and changes, and easy to comunicate with, which i appreciated a lot. They picked me up in the Airport and were very welcoming since i arrived in Nepal.
I did the ABC trek for one week with Amar, and it was unforgettable! Amar was very caring, respectful, and always gave his best to make me feel confortable and motivated through all the week. Even when i got an injury in the last days, he was super patient and helpful :) Thank you Amar, it wouldnt have been the same without you!
During the week i also had the opportunity to spend almost 3 days with Arpen, who was also very helpful, funny and a great guide! What a fun and amazing time we had alltogether on the way to the Base Camp!
For sure i would book again with Alpine. Thank you Dil, Amar and Arpen! It was a blast!

What a journey! The trek and everything about it far surpassed my expectations, great scenery, great people, great memories and feelings that will stay with me forever. This is all thanks to my excellent guide Aysush and Trip organiser Dil. Thanks you both so much for making my experience the best possible.

Aysush you were great, you showed me the way and looked after me making sure I was fed, watered and showered (sometimes solar powered 😉) and above all else getting the most from my incredible journey. I remember being stuck at Macchaputre after a hail storm/blizzard and you were excellent as always with making me feel comfortable and coming up with a new plan to trek at 430 the next day to ABC once the weather cleared. This was the most exciting days ever, trekking into the sunrise and the truly awesome scenery, I really could not believe it!
You also rescued me from Pokhara airport when I decided to stay one more night (but that is another story, carpe diem 😉)

I've never done an extended an trek or been to Nepal before. So if you're thinking of taking the plunge and up for a rewarding challenge then I massively recommend Alpine Ramble to take you on an unforgettable trip!

We did ABC trek In 7 days, beginning at 29.10. Everything was perfect from the beginning to the end. We met Dil & Sujal (Guide) at our hotel day before travelling from Kathmandu to Pokhara, and we got detailed information about our trek.

Sujal and Prasanta (Porter) were such a nice and kind, always smiling and asking is everything ok. They organised everything so well and made things easy for us.

I can definitely recommend Alpine Ramble Treks for everyone!
